BOLIVIA, N.C. – The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners met for a regular meeting this Monday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m.

Below is a quick recap of the actions taken on selected agenda items during the regular meeting. Residents can view the full agenda and accompanying reports and subscribe to agenda notifications on the Brunswick County Agenda Portal at brunswickcountync.gov/agendas.

VI. Presentations
  1. Clerk to the Board – Operation Green Light: The Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted the resolution honoring veterans of Brunswick County. Download photos here.
  2. Clerk to the Board – Eagles Island Nature Park: The Board of Commissioners received a presentation from the Eagles Island Nature Park Taskforce. No action was taken. View the full presentation on the Brunswick County Agenda Portal.
  3. Utilities – Reclaimed Water Policy Presentation: The Board of Commissioners received information and provide staff direction for consideration of amending the existing Reclaimed Water Policy. No action was taken. View the full presentation on the Brunswick County Agenda Portal.
VII. Public Hearings
  1. Planning – UDO Text Amendment – Data Centers: The Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on the proposed amendment to the Brunswick County Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) to allow Data Centers within the I-G (Industrial General) Zoning District as well as including Data Centers/Data Storage as a principal use in the Light Industrial Use Interpretation Table and creating a definition for Data Centers. There were no requests to speak. After closing the public hearing, the Board unanimously approved the amendment and full recommendation as presented.
VIII. Administrative Report
  1. Administration – Letter of Support for Israel: The Board of Commissioners unanimously authorized the chairman to sign a letter to Senators Budd and Tillis and to Representative Rouzer supporting Israel.
  2. Utilities – Northwest Water Treatment Plant Basis of Design – CDM Smith Contract Amendment No. 4: The Board of Commissioners unanimously authorized the chairman and clerk to the board to approve the CDM Smith Contract Amendment No. 4 and associated budget amendment in the amount of $3,437,100 for construction administration services associated with the Northwest Water Treatment Plant expansion project.
IX. Board Appointments
  1. Health and Human Services Advisory Board Public Appointment: The Board of Commissioners unanimously appointed Mr. Charles (Chip) Carroll as the Public appointee to the Health and Human Services Advisory Board.
  2. Health and Human Services Advisory Board Veterinarian Appointment: The Board of Commissioners unanimously appointed Dr. Lauren Gallagher to the Health and Human Services Advisory Board as the Veterinarian appointment.
XI. Closed Session
  1. County Attorney – Closed Session: After returning from closed session, the Board of Commissioners unanimously authorized staff to hire legal counsel to join with Fayetteville Public Works Commission and Cape Fear Public Utility Authority to move to intervene in a contested case hearing between the City of Asheboro and NCDEQ to support DEQ’s legal authority to establish regulatory limits on the discharge of 1,4 dioxane.
