Brunswick County is exceptional for many reasons, one being that it is a community full of great residents who seek avenues to assist others and animals in need. Now is your opportunity to nominate these exceptional volunteers for the 2024 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award! If you know an outstanding volunteer in our community, nominating them is a great way to let them know how much their work is appreciated.

The County may select up to 10 recipients to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities. One of the nominees will be nominated for the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service, which is awarded to the top 20-25 volunteers in the state and is the highest level of volunteer recognition in North Carolina. A local committee will evaluate the nominations and then submit Brunswick County’s final nominations to the North Carolina Office of the Governor.

NOMINATION FORMS

Nomination forms are available in Brunswick County at the following location(s):

Nominations can be submitted online or by downloading the printable nomination form. The printable nomination form can be downloaded in PDF or Microsoft Word formats and is available in English and español. If using the printable nomination form, you must send the form to Brunswick County Volunteer and Non-Profit Coordinator Leslie Stanley via:

Completed forms must be submitted by Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 (late submissions will not be eligible for review).

Award recipients will be recognized and honored at a reception in Spring 2024. Last year’s Brunswick County award winners can be found at brunswickcountync.gov/gvsa.

For questions or additional information about the awards program, contact Leslie Stanley at [email protected] or call 910.253.2589.

About Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards

The Governor’s Volunteer Service Award (GVSA), created by the Office of the Governor in 1979, honors the true spirit of volunteerism by recognizing individuals and groups that make a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service. An individual or group from the public, nonprofit, and private sector may be nominated for this recognition award by a community member to their county-designated coordinator. There are categories for the type of nominee (individual, group, national service, and director of volunteers). Additional categories are based on the area of service (dedication to assisting veterans/military families, youth, seniors, marginalized populations, animals, etc.). The NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service (VolunteerNC) reviews county nominations and award selections are given out locally by the designated county award coordinator. Learn more about the Commission and the GVSA program at nc.gov/volunteernc.
